Sleeping Dogs Lie is 30 years of original indie rock music from songwriter, Eric Guenette and musician friends. It started with a Tascam 4-track and a couple of guitars in a small apartment in West Palm Beach, Florida in 1996, with the release of a self-titled cassette tape. The first cd "Joy" was released in 1997. Miami Herald / City Link Magazine music critic Jake Cline said that "David Geffen would be wise to pursue..." The recordings continued with the more lofi experimental "Slightly confusing to a stranger," with a noiser, hissing sound with a wider breadth of styles. The "Nude" album was a more subdued and stripped down sound, focusing more on the songwriting aspect of the music. "Headfirst down the stairs" was released with a massive 22-song album, with high energy and a tilt towards mainstream indie rock. In 2007, the original Sleeping Dogs Lie cassette was remastered and rereleased with the original 12 songs from the cassette, plus 10 new songs. Each cd was hand packaged and loaded with pesonalized artwork. Looking for the next challenge, Guenette decided to write and record an entire album with only found objects and homemade instruments, but keeping the focus on songwriting at the same time. 2009 brought a move to Albuquerque, New Mexico. After a couple of years in Big Sky country, Guenette took yet another artistic swerve into electronic ambient music. No beats, guitars, vocals...Just atmosphere inspired by New Mexico. The album "La Luz" was a big departure from the indie rock vibe from previous records. 2014 brought back a more mature indie rock album called "Mud & sky." After Mud & sky, he began to focus on abstract painting for the next ten years, while still com writing and composing more songs over that time. These songs were slowly simmering for years, but Guenette decided to make a big move to Lagos, Portugal in 2024. As the painting became more diffucult in a small apartment, the music again to center stage. With a decade of songs, he put the finishing touches on the ninth Sleeping Dogs Lie album, "The ordinaire." which is scheduled for release in spring of 2026.
